Interface Development

So… I dove into my interface development tonight and pretty much finished. I now have a wooden box with 16 different momentary switches wired to a keyboard circuit board (if that makes sense).

Each switch produces a different letter/symbol. These 16 letters will be used in processing, each is unique so they can all bring up the different frames in the font identification application. Take a look at the photos below:

Keyboard

I was able to get a couple of keyboards from work. I started taking them apart. Hopefully I will be able to rig something up as an interface for my final special topics project.

3X3X3 Grid Revised – Processing

The code behind this 3D grid is a lot cleaner than the previous one. The code is 1/4th of the length that it was before. Fully optimized.  There’s also some reaction to the mouse now.

Rough Concept – Final Special Topics Project

The idea for my final project is to have some sort of interface laid out with “The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog” cards somehow tied to the X and Y axis of a ball mouse. Basically it would be a typeface memory/matching game. When a card is ’selected’ the name of the typeface comes up on the screen. It would be a great way to practice identifying type; we’ll see how it turns out.

Type Match Concept

Can you tell why I chose type? My handwriting is terrible.

Informational Interview – Preston Kelly

My opinions and thoughts following my informational interview at Preston Kelly.

Preston Kelly doesn’t spend their client’s money on advertising; they invest it in iconic ideas. I think this really sets them apart from other agencies. Taco John’s ‘Olé Stacking’ videos and Roundy’s ‘Chairman Bob Approved’ advertisements are perfect examples of this plan in action.
